Levy case closed as Ingmar Guandique determined guilty

The Levy case has seemingly been closed with the sentence of Guandique. The jury deliberated for 4 days, and returned a guilty verdict for Guandique, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador. The case is still a subject of controversy. You will find some who think Guandique was framed.

Guandique charged for murdering Chandra Levy

After years of the case going unsolved, Guandique was determined responsible after the litigation over the Chandra Levy murder, according to MSNBC. In WA D.C., Levy had an internship. She supposedly was having an affair with Gary Condit, prior congressman, at the time. Ingmar Guandique is already serving a 10-year sentence for attacks on 2 women in Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C., from 2001. In Rock Creek Park in 2001, Levy's remains were determined. She had been reported missing a year earlier. What led prosecutors to try the already incarcerated inmate was testimony from his cellmate, who claimed that Guandique had admitted to murdering her, but nothing else. Since many think that Guandique has been used as a scapegoat, the murder trial is very controversial.

The proof brought to the table

Guandique, as an illegal immigrant, had his defense point out that Gary Condit took the Fifth Amendment at the trial while also always acting suspicious when it came to the case. A witness can take the Fifth Amendment to stay away from incriminating himself, which Condit did. The defense also pointed out some severe concerns concerning physical evidence, based on the WA Post. There is little physical evidence that Guandique ever came in contact with Levy. Neither Guandique or Condit match the DNA found on Levy's running tights while there was never a homicide weapon determined. Based on the prosecution, it is very possible that the DNA accidently was mixed with DNA from others because it was handled improperly. No tests were done to confirm this though.

Troubling conclusion to a much talked about case

It seems very possible that Guandique could be responsible in the Chandra Levy case thinking about his previous crimes although you will find inconsistencies in evidence. Maybe Chandra would appreciate the justice if she were nevertheless here.
