Power couple: Forbes labels Michelle Obama most influential female

Michelle Obama, wife of the world’s most influential man, has been named the world’s most influential female by Forbes. As the first lady prepares a multi-state campaign swing next week, Democratic prospects are hopeful that her strength translates to votes in the November election. Of course, it is arguable whether or not The First Lady is the world’s most powerful female, as more than a couple of bloggers are saying.

Oprah, Hillary and Lady Gaga all place after Michelle Obama

On top of the “New Forbes Power Women” that Forbes put out on October 6, Michelle Obama had been number 1. This is the newest 2010 list. ”Creative influence and entrepreneurship” had been the focus this year when Forbes looked at the top 100 business moguls, movie stars and politicians. In its’ profile of Obama, Forbes called her “a true change-maker” who has “given a new generation of girls and women around the globe a role model.” Obama’s style of strength is one that “stays from hard policy,” based on the magazine source. The Forbes list top 10 women include Ellen Degeneres within the 10th spot, Beyonce in ninth, Lady Gaga in seventh, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in fifth, German Chancellor Angela Merkel in fourth and Oprah Winfrey in third.

Democrats hoping to benefit from the supposed power of the first lady

Michelle Obama has elevated her profile on the campaign trail within the past few weeks. She has been out in the field telling every person they need to vote Democrat in order to progress Obama’s agenda rather than stop it. She warns that Republicans taking over Congress will stop any progression, says CBS. States that go either Democrat or Republican will be seeing the first lady quite soon. She is going on a seven-state fundraising tour in order to support the Democratic vote. Her approval rating on the Washington Post is 66 percent. President Obama’s CBS approval ranking is only at 44 percent.

The First Lady position argued

Michelle Obama’s place at the top of the Forbes most powerful women list is disputed in certain circles. Christian Science Monitor’s Peter Grier said Hillary Clinton is higher than Obama because Obama does not have bigger issues she’s working on. Right wing blogger Michelle Malkin used the Forbes list to nurse an ongoing grudge against the first lady, comparing her number one ranking with the “underserved honor” of her husband’s Nobel Peace Prize. Malkin went on to criticize Obama for failing to land an Olympic bid for Chicago, failing to get Congress to pass a child nutrition bill and campaigning for Democratic candidates within the forthcoming election.
