Budig emerged the winner on “Skating with the Stars” following a tight struggle. The competition came down to fan favored Frankel and Budig. Nonetheless, the show is not likely returning.
The announcement of the ‘Skating with the Stars’ winner
As a buffer in mid season between fall and spring runs of “Dancing with the Stars,” a new series called “Skating with the Stars” was cooked up. CBS reports that the first “Skating with the Stars” winner finally was announced. There were two finalists left. “The Real Housewives of New York City” had Bethenny Frankel in there along with Rebecca Budig who is from the “All My Children” soap opera. The end of the Budig and skate partner Fred Palascak skated to “Hot N Cold” by Katy Perry, and received a perfect score for their performance from judges Dick Button, Johnny Weir and Laurieann Gibson. Frankel and Ethan Burgess skated to “Right Round” by Flo Rida and Ke$ha, but failed to capture the win. The fans loved Frankel though.
Viewers not happy about the show
Despite the popularity of celebrity reality competition shows, such as “Dancing with the Stars,” the ice skating variant has not performed well in the ratings. The start to the show was sort of okay although the end wasn’t good at all. That is what the Hollywood Reporter explains. Either 3.4 million viewers or a 0.8 Nielsen rating was needed by the show. By contrast, a “Glee” rerun had a rating of 1.3, or about 4 million viewers. There was the actress Sean Young and rocker Vince Neil on the show in the beginning. That apparently wasn’t enough to get more viewers interested in the show.
Show could skate off into the sunset
This season, “Skating with the Stars,” got really bad ratings. More than likely, it will not get renewed. That said, low ratings in early seasons don’t always spell doom and gloom, and a solid second season could improve the show’s chances.
