Green cars getting numerous automobile of the year honors

Various automobiles are being dubbed Auto of the year by numerous agencies, foundations and publications. There isn’t a tried and true method of distinguishing an automobile of the year, however that certainly does not stop everyone. However, this year’s awards seem to have a particular leaning. More Automobile of the year awards will green automobiles.

Volt is the automobile of the year

The 2 most hotly envisioned green cars, the Chevrolet Volt and the Nissan Leaf, are both getting attention from numerous Automobile of the Year-award-bestowing bodies. Wired accounts that the Volt, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, won Automobile of the year. It’s certain that many are happy. General Motors is likely more happy than any others. Also, Motor Trend and Automobile magazines gave Chevy the Volt Automobile of the year award. Part of the judging for the LA Auto Show had Carroll Shelby, performance guru and automotive legend. Jay Leno was on the judging panel also. The Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Volt, both green cars, differ in the Volt is a plug-in hybrid, and the Leaf is totally electric.

The Leaf has got the honor for Car of the year also

The Telegraph accounts that the 2011 European Vehicle of the year may be the Nissan Leaf. The way the European Vehicle of the year honor is chosen is by a panel of European automotive journals. They vote on who wins. From 23 countries, 58 judges showed up. The Nissan Leaf is one of the first all-electric vehicles manufactured on the scale of a major car manufacturer (notwithstanding golf carts), and it has been in a near dead heat with the Chevy Volt in most American Automobile of the year vote counts at auto shows. The 2 vehicles may have an epic showdown at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show.

World honor next year

In spring of 2011, the World Automobile of the year can be announced, as votes are being compiled. Though serious authorities are weighing in on the best automobiles of 2010, it seems the best car of a year shouldn’t be picked until years later. Every person wants their automobile to last a long time. These should be the ones voted on.
