Third time is no charm as Rossi concedes to Patty Murray

Patty Murray has won re-election to the U.S. Senate from Washington State. The race had been conceded by Rossi. Dino has been in a close vote count before. Dino Rossi formerly lost 2 really close races to Christine Gregoire in gubernatorial elections in the Evergreen State. The 3rd time for Rossi was not a charm.

Dino Rossi concedes to Patty Murray

Patty Murray might really well have lost the election as it was a possibility when the race began. After election night, exit polls and compiling votes put incumbent Senator Patty Murray and her Republican challenger, Dino Rossi nearly even. USA Today reports that Murray started to lead after ballots from probably the most populated county within the states, King County, started coming in. The race had been lost by Rossi which was known by Thursday evening. Thursday Murray within the Senate race had a 46,000 lead. Murray could be in her fourth term. This is not the very first time Dino Rossi has conceded a tight race. He lost a close race for governor of Washington State against Christine Gregoire. This was in 2004 after a law suit and two recounts happened. In 2008, Gregoire beat him again. A third loss for Rossi is disappointing. He seemed upset.

Voting blue for the red state

Washington state is considered a Democrat stronghold, but that is misleading. CNN reports that Murray might really well have won the 2010 election although most of the state territories voted differently. In fact, hardly any counties voted for her. Less than 10 made that vote. However, many of the population of Washington state is in heavy Democrat territory. Most of Washington state will vote Republican although Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia and I-5 corridor to Portland vote Democrat switching the polls.

Majority to senate

The majority of the senate is still democrat. There are now 47 Republican seats and 51 Democratic seats. Two independent senators that caucus with Democrats usually are also in office.
