Hylands Teething Tablets recalled due to belladonna material

Teething time is a trial for youngsters and parents. Tablets that help soothe the gums can sometimes be the only thing that permits a good night’s sleep, making them a mainstay for well-prepared moms and dads. This is why the United States of America Food and Drug Administration’s recent statement that Hyland’s Teething Tablets have been voluntarily recalled due to potential toxicity is particularly troubling. The teething relief product has some belladonna in it, which could be lethal if ingested in large amounts.

Stop using all Hyland’s Teething Tablets immediately

Make certain you take Hyland’s advice. Get all teething tablets out of your home. For safe replacements, parents are advised to contact the company at hylandsteething.com/recall or 877-496-5044. The consumer service call center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Belladonna needs to be ‘carefully controlled’

Belladonna has been used as an anesthetic before. The FDA suggests that it is carefully controlled when getting used though. This is particularly true when young children are involved. An analysis in the lab found there were “inconsistent amounts of belladonna.” Parents should be cautious due to this. There have been belladonna toxicity amounts that have showed children suffering side effects including constipation, rash, confusion, light sensitivity, blurred vision and dilated pupils. Considering that Hyland’s Teething Tablets packages aren’t manufactured with child resistant caps, the danger is clear.
