The sub-genre of horror films and novels of Zombie Lit has been exploding after the last few years. After some very successful zombie movies, like 28 Days Later, there were soon zombie themed novels that followed. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and World War Z were some of probably the most popular. Brad Pitt was most recently confirmed to star in World War Z. The coming zombie apocalypse
In 2003, the wildly popular book The Zombie Survival Guide was released, and also the author wrote World War Z as a kind of follow up. It is a fictional technical manual on how to deal with the undead. The follow up was World War Z, which was published in 2006, as an oral history of the zombie apocalypse. Max Brooks is the author of both novels, the son of Mel Brooks and previous SNL writer. It has been waiting to get off the ground after being picked up for a movie in 2007.
This could turn out excellent
According to MTV, it was announced at Comic-Con in San Diego that Brad Pitt has been confirmed to star. Paramount has also optioned other works by Max Brooks to be filmed. Marc Forster, director of Quantum of Solace, was attached to direct at one point, but that is likely to change. Fewer zombie films are getting made than within the past few years, so it may be a sign of the resurgent zombie renaissance being on the wane.
Not the only zombie film in the works
Not only is World War Z due to enter production, there also will be a film of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The mish-mash of Jane Austen’s classic novel and zombies, ninjas and carnage will come out sometime within the next year, and will star Natalie Portman. Zombies seem to are discarded in lieu of melodramatic vampires and werewolves with awful dialogue and worse acting, but World War Z could end up being epic.
